Understanding How Car Brake Pads Work

In order to better understand the importance of having your car brakes maintained, the team at Tony Hyundai Honolulu wanted to pass along some information that will make it easier to understand how the brake pads actually work.

The car tires in a disc brake system are attached to a brake rotor. The brake caliper is connected to the brake rotor, and will squeeze the rotor as the brake pedal is depressed in order to slow the vehicle. To avoid metal contacting metal, the brake pad works like a buffer in between to bring your ride to a stop.

The more time that passes in between car inspections, the more of the brake pad that wears away. If the brake pads are not maintained, the rivets holding them in place will become exposed and could begin to grind up on the rotor and cause serious damage while creating a very costly repair.
